The Ugly Eagles embarked on an incredible run last football season.
Following a 5-5 regular season in a loaded East Bay Athletic League, they ended up becoming one of the top storylines of the entire postseason. They won five games in a row, completing the feats of North Coast Section, Northern California and state titles along the way.
From that state championship squad comes back the heart of that special run: defense.
Senior linebacker Dylan Seeley – the No. 45 player in the Xclusive Speed Top 45 Powered by West Coast Preps – was an anchor of a defensive unit that surrendered 16.2 points per game. Seeley finished with 79 tackles on the year, one interception, one forced fumble and one blocked PAT, along with earning a State Championship MVP nod.
Senior Lukas Linkhart is another defensive stalwart next to Seeley and shined as a junior to the tune of 95 tackles, three tackles for loss and a team-high three interceptions.
But the Ugly Eagles also return a slew of talent offensively, too.
Jake Kern is back for one final year at the quarterback spot after throwing for 1,685 yards, 12 touchdowns and just two interceptions. He also added six scores on the ground.
It’s athletes galore next to Kern. Senior Omari Taylor – who was the No. 17 player in the Xclusive Speed Top 45 Powered by West Coast Preps – ran for 1,428 yards and 12 scores last season, while junior Rahsaan Woodland tallied 557 rushing yards and two touchdowns, and senior Erik Christoffersen totaled 146 rushing yards, 493 receiving yards and five total touchdowns.
