It’s the 20th day of the 25 Days of Christmas preseason rankings for West Coast Preps, this time with the No. 6 team.

The rankings, which will tab the top 25 football teams in the Bay Area, announce one team each day through Christmas Day. The No. 1 team will be unveiled on Dec. 25 at WestCoastPreps.com.

Only schools located within cities on the Bay Area Census are eligible for the poll.

West Coast Preps unveiled the No. 25, No. 24, No. 23, No. 22, No. 21, No. 20, No. 19, No. 18, No. 17, No. 16, No. 15, No. 14, No. 13, No. 12, No. 11, No. 10, No. 9, No. 8 and No. 7 football teams in the Bay Area earlier this month.

No. 6: Cardinal Newman

Cardinal Newman absolutely obliterated the competition in 2019.

While outsourcing opponents by a combined 534-150, Cardinal Newman accumulated a 14-1 record – with the only loss coming by four points to Liberty – while capturing a California Interscholastic Federation Division 3-AA state title following a 31-14 victory over Oceanside’s El Camino High School.

This year, experience is at a premium for the defending state champion despite the graduations of quarterback Jackson Pavitt (2,750 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, two interceptions; 744 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns) and receiver Giancarlo Woods (864 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns).

Senior running back/linebacker Shane Moran – the No. 37 player in the Xclusive Speed Top 45 Powered by West Coast Preps – could not be stopped on either side of the ball last season. Moran finished with 750 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, 318 receiving yards and one touchdown, 108 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and two blocked punts.

Tsion Nunnally – the No. 14 player in the Xclusive Speed Top 45 Powered by West Coast Preps – is another blue chip name in the 2021 class for Cardinal Newman. The Washington State receiver commit recorded 770 receiving yards and 10 scores.

Other players to watch for this year include senior Mitch Russell, who was one of the top defenders in the North Coast Section a year ago by registering 125 tackles and 10 tackles for loss, and sophomore Santino Acevedo, who had 64 tackles and 13 tackles for loss as a freshman.
