West Coast Preps is in its first year of covering high school sports in the Bay Area and is a free platform aimed at letting all of the remarkable stories regarding student-athletes be heard. This is a voluntary contribution to help us during our first year to continue taking pictures, videos at events and allow us to create more quality content in the future. 25 Days of Christmas: No. 8 Los Gatos

It’s the 18th day of the 25 Days of Christmas preseason rankings for West Coast Preps, this time with the No. 8 team.

The rankings, which will tab the top 25 football teams in the Bay Area, announce one team each day through Christmas Day. The No. 1 team will be unveiled on Dec. 25 at WestCoastPreps.com.

Only schools located within cities on the Bay Area Census are eligible for the poll.

West Coast Preps previously unveiled the No. 25, No. 24, No. 23, No. 22, No. 21, No. 20, No. 19, No. 18, No. 17, No. 16, No. 15, No. 14, No. 13, No. 12, No. 11, No. 10 and No. 9 football teams in the Bay Area earlier this month.

No. 8: Los Gatos

The defending Central Coast Section Division II champion boasts a loaded roster heading into the upcoming winter/spring season.

Los Gatos, fresh off a 12-2 season, with the only defeats coming to Wilcox and then Cardinal Newman (the eventual state champion) in the Northern California championship contest, is loaded at nearly every position this year.

Senior linebacker Will Schweitzer is one of the top players in the area, coming in at No. 3 in the Xclusive Speed Top 45 Powered by West Coast Preps. Schweitzer, a Notre Dame signee, finished with 130 tackles and nine tackles for loss in 2019 and is a soon-to-be three-year varsity starter.

Next to Schweitzer are other dominant forces on the defensive side of the ball – a unit which held opponents to only an average of 14.2 points, including four shutouts in 14 games. Junior linebacker/tight end Jake Ripp notched 87 tackles and five tackles for loss last year, while senior defensive back Carson Gardner had 65 tackles and four tackles for loss, and senior linebacker/fullback Jaden Mazzaferro registered 64 tackles and eight tackles for loss.

Offensively, the Wildcats return one of the area’s premier players in the backfield from a unit that scored 33 points per game.

Senior running back Adam Garwood – who has offers from Rocky Mountain College and the University of San Diego – is the No. 19 player in the Xclusive Speed Top 45 Powered by West Coast Preps after accumulating 1,260 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns a year ago in addition to his 188 receiving yards and two scores.
