Pittsburg senior quarterback Eli Brickhandler is the first-ever West Coast Preps Athlete of the Week.
Brickhandler’s performance in Xclusive Speed’s 27-21 victory over TTP in the second week of the Winner Circle Athletics football action in Los Angeles more than garnered him this award for the team’s first win of the season.
The dual-threat quarterback completed 10 passes for 183 yards and three touchdowns, including one score on the ground. And he engineered a masterful game-winning drive, extending the possession on a fourth and long and then throwing the touchdown passes with six seconds left in the corner of the end zone.
Brickhandler, the epitome of a leader, has been a winner step of the way during his high school career. Originally at Rocklin’s Whitney High School before moving to Pittsburg over the offseason, throwing for 2,259 yards and 18 touchdowns next to his 743 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, leading a turnaround for the ages at the school with Whitney winning seven games and appearing in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II championship game after going winless the year prior.
Black Hills State, Iowa Wesleyan, La Verne, Lawrence Tech, Rocky Mountain College and Saint Anselm have all offered Brickhandler.
