A do-it-all performance from Oak Grove senior running back Elias Herrera earned him West Coast Preps Athlete of the Week honors.
Herrera ran for 49 yards on two carries and caught two passes for 17 yards in Xclusive Speed’s 21-14 defeat to Winner Circle Athletics on Saturday, including the game-tying 52-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter that knotted the score up at 14-14 before WCA eventually pulled out the win.
The Xclusive Speed and Oak Grove standout has 40-plus in two of the last three games, with his previous outing of such an output was 44 yards on four touches in Xclusive Speed’s week No. 2 win against TTP.
Herrera’s winning ways were evident well before the 2021 WCA Champions League season, winning 10 games as a junior at Oak Grove in its run to a runner-up finish in the Central Coast Section Division II championship game. His statistics included more than 150 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns, one receiving touchdown, 60-plus tackles, eight tackles for loss, four caused fumbles and two interceptions – one of which was returned to the house.
