Huchingson’s dreams come true
Acalanes senior quarterback Brady Huchingson is Division I bound after a long journey.
Huchingson, who received a preferred walk-on offer from Oregon State two weeks ago, announced his commitment to the Beavers this week, which follows an incredible path as a star quarterback for the Dons.
As a junior, Huchingson threw for 2,646 yards, 29 touchdowns and just five interceptions in Acalanes’ road to its first league title in 30 years. He then had 1,381 passing yards and 15 touchdowns in six games as a senior.
Bay Area stars going Division I
Two more Bay Area seniors announced their Division I commitments.
Los Gatos senior running back Adam Garwood is heading to Cal Poly, choosing the Mustangs over an offer from the University of San Diego.
Garwood was the No. 6 rusher in the Central Coast Section this spring by totaling 604 yards and 11 touchdowns while Los Gatos won a league title, following up a 2019 campaign when he finished with 1,260 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns in Los Gatos’ CCS championship season.
Marin Catholic senior tight end and outside linebacker Geordie Aarsheim committed to UC Davis, where he will join teammate Matteo Perez.
Aarsheim capped his high school career with a perfect record after going for 553 receiving yards and three touchdowns as a junior.
WCAL players commit
Three West Catholic Athletic League players announced their next destinations.
The first was St. Francis senior lineman Antonio Vakameilalo committed to Cal Poly just a few days following a 3-2 season for the Lancers.
Bellarmine senior receiver, defensive back and kick returner Adam Hayashi will play at Chapman. Hayashi intercepted three passes in five games during the spring.
Valley Christian senior offensive lineman James Le committed to Pacific Lutheran following a 3-1 year and a No. 4 Bay Area ranking for the Warriors.
Hunter goes JUCO route
Amador Valley senior athlete Eric Hunter III opted for the junior college landscape, as he chose Diablo Valley College.
Hunter was a two-way star for the Dons, capturing first team all-league honors at both running back and safety as a junior in 2019, when he had 833 rushing yards, 211 receiving yards and three interceptions. Hunter then rushed for 528 yards and three touchdowns in three games as a senior before the final two contests were canceled.
Other offers from Hunter included Black Hills State and Linfield.
El Cerrito defensive back heading to Clarke
El Cerrito senior Mark Edwards is heading to Clarke to continue his football career.
Edwards was part of a stellar El Cerrito defensive attack that allowed a total of seven points in four games and pitched three shutouts.
