Acalanes special teamer adds first Division I opportunity
Acalanes senior kicker/punter Hunter Ridley’s first offer to play Division I football came through Friday.
Wagner College sent an offer his way, becoming the first Division I offer for him and the seventh offer for him overall.
Ridley was awarded with all-state honors on an Acalanes team that went 9-3 overall and made an appearance in the North Coast Section semifinals in 2019.
SEC offer rolls in for De La Salle tight end
De La Salle junior tight end Brodie Tagaloa brought in another high-profile college offer.
Tagaloa, entering just his second season back in the sport, was offered by Tennessee. The Volunteers joined the likes of Arizona State, California, Nebraska, Oregon, Oregon State and San Jose State to provide Tagaloa a scholarship opportunity in their respective programs.
Last year, Tagaloa hauled in four catches for 64 yards and two touchdowns as De La Salle won a North Coast Section Open Division crown.
Tagaloa’s older brother, Boss Tagaloa, was a star at De La Salle and recently wrapped up an impressive career at UCLA.
Recruitment picks up for El Cerrito’s Carr
It was a special week for El Cerrito senior defensive end Nathaniel Carr.
Carr brought in an Arizona Christian offer, which marked the first scholarship offer to come his way.
As a junior, Carr secured first team all-league recognition while helping the Gauchos to a North Coast Section Division III quarterfinals appearance.
Strong offseason continues for Irvington’s Montelongo
The 2020 offseason is growing by the day for Irvington senior quarterback Julian Montelongo.
Montelongo’s fourth offer found its way to him Saturday, this time from La Verne.
Allegheny, Luther College and Trinity International are the other schools who have offered Montelongo ahead of his final high school campaign.
Offer No. 2 comes in for SPSV star
St. Patrick-St. Vincent class of 2021 athlete Ja’Vione Shepherd received his second offer last week.
Eastern New Mexico offered Shepherd, coming less than a month after Black Hills State sent an offer his way on Nov. 11.
Shepherd finished with 1,000-plus all-purpose yards and 18 touchdowns his junior year to earn first team all-league honors.
