The OAL has been dominated by Mcclymonds for quite a while now, and going into this season, there were questions on if the gap was closing a little bit. Mack answered all of those questions very early in its game. A rout of Skyline (0-1) began early, as this one ended with McClymonds (1-0) winning, 60-0.
The onslaught started very early, as the Mack attack was on in the first quarter on a 7-yard touchdown pass. With the score at 7-0, McClymonds did not stop in the first quarter.
McClymonds’ defense stood tall all night long. It forced turnovers, stuffed the running game and ended the night without giving up a single point on the board. With two turnovers returned for touchdowns in the game, this defense was relentless in its pursuit.
The second touchdown was a back breaker for Joe Bates and his Skyline squad. A 78-yard touchdown run at the end of the first quarter made this game seem like it was over early. The Mack offense rolling on all cylinders, the defense was stifling and there was nothing stopping Mack in this statement game.
The offense continued to make big plays all day long with a total of seven plays that went 20-plus yards. That includes three plays that went over 50 yards.
With a running clock in the second half, Mack added onto its halftime lead of 36-0 quickly. A pick six by DaVeonne Sanders made the game 44-0. With one more touchdown and one of many successful two-point conversions, Mack went up 52-0 at the end of the third quarter.
As much as Bates and the Skyline sideline tried to get the energy up, they couldn’t muster a whole lot on either side of the ball against one of the region’s – and state’s – top teams. They forced one turnover in the game after recovering a fumble on the first possession of the second half but threw the interception for a touchdown right after.
One more touchdown and two-point conversion for Mack ended the game and made the final score 60-0 in the first week of OAL football.
