Moreau Catholic athlete commits to Colorado

Moreau Catholic athlete Nikko Reed is heading to the Pac-12.

Reed, a class of 2021 all-around star for the Mariners, announced his commitment to the University of Colorado on Wednesday, becoming the 16th pledge in the Buffaloes’ recruiting class.

Rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports and the No. 155 athlete in 2021, Reed has continually won during his high school career at Moreau Catholic. In his two varsity season, he and the Mariners have gone a combined 20-5 overall and always made at least the North Coast Section semifinals.

As a sophomore in 2018, Reed and Moreau Catholic compiled a 12-1 overall record, a perfect 6-0 mark in Mission Valley Athletic League play and recorded a runner-up finish in the NCS Division IV bracket.

Fast word to his junior campaign in 2019, and Reed helped the program to another highly successful season, going 8-4 overall, finishing second in MVAL with a 5-1 record and reaching the NCS Division V semifinals.

Reed joins a Colorado program that is entering its first season under head coach Karl Dorrell, whose previous experience also includes multiple stints as an NFL assistant and as a head coach at UCLA from 2003-07.

Dorrell takes over for Mel Tucker, who took the same position at Michigan State after leading the Buffaloes to a 5-7 record in his lone season in Boulder.
