Sofia Gonzalez, Whittier Christian (Junior P)
Whittier Christian’s workhorse got it done for them one more time in the Division 2 Championship against Mater Dei. Gonzalez tossed an eight-inning complete game, allowing only two earned runs to lead Whittier Christian to a 5-3 title win. Gonzalez did a fantastic job attacking Mater Dei hitters and trusting her offense.
Harper Vandermolen, Irvine (Senior 3B)
The Bowling Green commit was an RBI machine in Irvine’s dominant 15-2 win over Arroyo in the CIF-SS Division 6 Championship. Vandermolen went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, two doubles and two runs scored in the title win.
Kaylee Jones, Northwood (Sophomore CF)
The underclassman stepped up big in the Division 5 Championship. Jones was perfect at the dish, going 3-for-3 with two RBI and a double to help lead Northwood to an 11-1 title win over Grace.
Jaylin Casillas, Arroyo Valley (Senior LF)
There was just no way Casillas was letting Arroyo Valley lose in the Division 8 Championship. The senior went 3-for-5 in the batter’s box with two runs scored and two RBIs, leading her squad to an 8-5 title win over San Bernardino.
Alexis Hurtado, Edgewood (Junior P)
The junior did it all in Edgewood’s Division 7 Championship game against Romona Convent. Hurtado tossed a complete game, allowing only one earned run with six strikeouts. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate, leading Edgewood to a 4-1 title win.
Mia Camacho, Whittier Christian (Junior 1B)
With Whittier Christian down by two in the seventh inning of the D2 title game, there wasn’t anybody else the Heralds wanted up with a runner on. The Rutgers commit did what she had been doing all season and delivered a game-tying two-run home run to send the championship into extras. Camacho went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, a run scored, a double and a home run to help Whittier Christian take down Mater Dei 5-3.
Destinee Herrera, Oxnard (Sophomore P)
Herrera put on an absolute masterclass on the mound in the Division 4 CIF-SS final against Mission Viejo. She tossed a complete game, allowing zero earned runs with three strikeouts, keeping Oxnard in the game long enough for a late-inning rally. The Yellowjackets didn’t let her performance go to waste, defeating Mission Viejo 3-1.
Olivia Chen, Northwood (Freshman P)
It’s rare to see a freshman put up the kind of performance that Chen displayed in the Division 5 title game. She was lights out, tossing a complete game and only allowing one earned run and two hits with three strikeouts. Chen’s gem helped Northwood rally late and defeated Grace 11-1 to be crowned D5 champs.
Liliana Escobar, JSerra Catholic (Senior P)
Against one of the best lineups in the state in La Mirada, Escobar was untouchable. The Florida commit tossed one more complete game, allowing only two earned runs and five hits with a ridiculous 12 strikeouts in the Division 1 Championship game. Escobar’s complete game gem helped lead the Lions to a 3-2 win over La Mirada and took home the D1 title.
Bella Perez, Whittier Christian (Senior OF)
The Lipscomb commit hit the most important ball of her high school career last week. With Whittier Christian tied at 3-3 against Mater Dei in the CIF-SS D2 Championship, Perez crushed a go-ahead two-run bomb in the eighth inning. The home run would ultimately be the game winner and Whittier Christian held on for the D2 title. Perez finished her day at the plate going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
