For a second straight week, Xclusive Speed came out on the winning end of the Winner Circle Athletics Champions League.
Behind a shutout effort, Xclusive Speed (2-1) registered a 14-0 victory over Redzone Elite, which followed up a thrilling 27-21 win against TTP a week ago.
Xclusive Speed’s defense came up strong throughout the course of the evening. Its shutout marked the second time in three games it allowed fewer than 10 points, and it has surrendered a combined 30 points in three contests.
But Xclusive Speed made plays when it needed to offensively as well.
The running game began to click, as three players totaled 24 or more yards on the ground. Oak Grove senior Isaac Morales posted a team-high 33 rushing yards on two carries, while Valley Christian senior quarterback Drew Rampelberg had 30 yards on three carries and Oak Grove senior Elias Herrera ran for 24 yards on three touches.
It was Rampelberg who started the scoring for Xclusive Speed, too.
Two weeks after a touchdown pass to Valley Christian teammate and sophomore receiver Jurrion Dickey in the season-opening defeat to the Long Beach Grind, Rampelberg found Denmark (Georgia) senior receiver Azari Brown for a 5-yard touchdown with 5:27 remaining in the first half to put Xclusive Speed up 7-0.
Pittsburg senior quarterback Eli Brickhandler – the first-ever West Coast Preps Athlete of the Week last week – threw the other touchdown pass on a 5-yard completion to Manteca junior Khalid Robinson to extend the lead to 14-0 with 35 seconds left before halftime to end the scoring for good for the game.
Brickhandler and Rampelberg combined for 134 passing yards and two touchdowns, as Brickhandler threw for 73 yards and a score to give him four touchdown passes – and five overall – through two games as part of Xclusive Speed’s roster. Rampelberg finished with 61 passing yards and a score.
Dickey was a top target again, adding to his 144-yard performance last week with 49 yards on four catches. Robinson had his best game to date with 45 yards and his score late in the first half on four receptions.
Brown was close behind both Dickey and Robinson with 39 yards on three grabs.
